NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team secured their first conference win as a member of the MAAC with a dominant victory over Canisius University.

The first quarter of the Warriors first ever MAAC game was a forgettable one. Merrimack dug themselves a hole early on going down 18-8 after the frame. The Blue and Gold would do just that, forget about it. The Warriors went on a ferocious run in the second quarter to take the lead and head into the halftime break up by five points, 29-24. In the second half Merrimack added on to their lead they had built in the previous quarter forcing empty possessions for Canisius and capitalizing on numerous fast break opportunities. In the quarter, the home team built a convincing 14-point lead heading into the fourth. In the final period of play, Merrimack kept their foot on the gas making sure there would be no room for a Golden Griffin comeback. They kept Canisius at arm's length going up by as many as 19 points. The Warriors would go on to secure their first ever MAAC win with another MAAC matchup ahead on Saturday at home.
