North Andover, MA.- The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team scored with the goalie pulled but fell short in a furious finish with the Vermont Catamounts by a score of 2-1 in their return to home ice on Friday afternoon.
Â
Merrimack (5-11-1, 2-8-1): 1, Vermont (4-13-2, 3-7-2): 2
Vermont scored the only goal of the first period at 11:47 of the frame,
Calli Hogarth however would keep the lead at one as she turned away 15 shots in the opening 20 minutes.
Â
Hogarth would make nine more saves in the second, and the Warriors best chance to tie the game came when
Rachel Bjorgan's partial break beat everything but the post.
Â
Vermont would add an insurance marker at the halfway of the third, but the Warriors were given a lifeline as they received a powerplay that
Sage Babey would score with the net empty in the final two minutes. With the net still empty the Warriors would be denied on two goal line chances in the final ten seconds as the Catamounts took the narrow victory.
