Orono, M.E.—The Merrimack Warriors Women's hockey team won their opening round playoff game in overtime against the Maine Black Bears by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night.
The Basics
Merrimack (11-21-3, 7-17-3): 0, Maine (15-18-2 11-14-2): 3
Calli Hogarth made 14 saves in the first period of play to keep the game scoreless through the opening 20 minutes.
In the second period, Northeastern would strike first on the powerplay as they would score at 13:39 of the frame and they would carry that lead to the third.
After starting the third period with a powerplay, Merrimack would cash in as
Celine Tedenby would score the tying goal on her former team less than two minutes in. Neither team however would score in the remainder of regulation sending the game to sudden death overtime.
In the overtime period, Merrimack would not wait around as
Allison Reeb would direct the original shot attempt from
Raice Szott off the end boards and into the net to send the Warriors to the next round.
