Providence, RI.—The Merrimack Warriors Men's Hockey team fell short against the Providence College Friars by a score of 4-2 on Thursday night.
The Basics
Merrimack (12-19-1, 5-16-1): 2, Providence (18-10-3, 11-7-3): 4
Providence scored the opening goal at 13:31 of the first period and would hold that lead into the intermission.
In the second period, Merrimack would cash in early in the second period, as
Mark Gallant would force a turnover behind the net and he would pick out
Ty Daneault in front who scored his 13
th goal of the season to tie the game at one. Providence however, would re-assume the lead just over minute later.
In the third period, Providence would score an insurance marker on the powerplay midway through the third period, Merrimack would get one back late as
Mark Hillier found the net with a backhand shot with 48 seconds left but the Friars would score an empty netter to close the contest.
