Men’s Basketball Season Ends with Loss to Wagner in NEC Finals

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team lost its final game of the season on Tuesday night to Wagner College 54-47. Devon Savage led the way for the Warriors with 16 points. Jordan McKoy added 11 points off the bench in 25 minutes for Merrimack in the loss.

The Seahawks scored the first four points of the game. Savage then knocked down his first three of the night to get the scoring going for the Warriors. After a layup from Wagner, Savage found the bottom of the net with a three to tie the game at six. A layup for the Seahawks gave them back the lead. Jacob O'Connell hit a three to put Merrimack on top by one. 10 minutes into the first half the Seahawks found themselves up by seven. Adam "Budd" Clark hit a jumper followed by a Jordan Derkack four-point play. The sequence gave Merrimack back a one-point lead. Wagner battled back to go up five. Savage hit another three to cut the advantage down to two. The Seahawks were up five with six minutes to go before halftime. O'Connell converted on a layup and Savage was pure on another three to tie the game at 25. Wagner took a four-point lead into halftime.

The Seahawks struck first in the second half to go up by six. Savage converted on a layup to cut the lead down to four. Wagner then added five straight points to go up nine. McKoy stopped the run with a three. The Seahawks scored five more points to go up 11. The Warriors then went on to score 13 unanswered points to go up by two with eight minutes to play. Wagner responded by adding eight points of their own to retake the lead by six. Clark scored on a layup to cut the lead down to four with a minute and a half to play. Good free throw shooting down the stretch would give Wagner a seven-point win.

Merrimack got 16 points from its bench.
