New Britain, C.T.— Merrimack Softball split the beginning of their weekend series against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils winning game one 5-2 and falling in game two 8-0.
Game 1:
Madison Cerpa homered for the ninth time this season in the first inning to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Merrimack would extend the lead to five in the second as
Sofia Palyan would score on an error, and
Ellen Hubbard would score
Alex Miller and
Bailey McDermott on a two run single.
With the five run lead in place,
Madie Fornwalt would throw a complete game victory, allowing four hits, and striking out five and two runs against, neither were earned runs. With the performance,
Madie Fornwalt reached 334.1 innings pitched, moving into 10
th all time on the team records list.
Game 2: Central Connecticut would score five runs in the first inning of game two, before adding another run in the second and two more in the fourth. The game would end in the fifth due to the mercy rule.
