North Andover, MA.— Merrimack Softball fell short in their doubleheader matchup against the LIU Sharks, falling by scores of 8-2 and 3-2 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors scored the game's first run when
Caity Lemay hammered her second career homer in the second inning. The Sharks would take the lead however, with a grand slam in the fourth inning. Merrimack would cut the lead back to two in the bottom of the inning as
Sam Russalesi would come off the bench to pinch hit to knock in
Thiana Brito.
LIU would score four more runs in the fifth inning and hold the Warriors to one more hit in the ball game, to pick up the win.
Notes and Numbers:
In Game two, LIU scored first on an RBI single, however Merrimack would take the lead on back to back RBI singles from
Courtney Lanpher and
Madison Cerpa.
The Warriors would hang on to the one run lead into the seventh, but the Sharks would tie the game on an error pushing the game into extra innings.
In the eighth, LIU would take the lead for good with an RBI single. The Warriors would bring the winning run to the plate but couldn't bring it in as the Sharks took game two.
