North Easton, M.A.—It took a week, but Merrimack Softball were able to complete this sweep of the Stonehill Skyhawks in an opening week doubleheader winning 3-1 in 10 innings in game one before a convincing 9-1 victory in game two.
Game 1: After a scoreless first four innings, the Warriors got the jumpstart they were looking for as
Gabby Kaduson hit her first career collegiate home run to left center field to take the lead, Stonehill however would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning and the game would remain that way until the tenth inning.
With the ghost runner added to the equation, Merrimack took advantage as
Thiana Brito would score
Madeline Arvai with a bunt single and Brito would extend the lead to two when she scored on a fielder's choice and error. With the two run lead secured,
Anna Gedacht would strike out the final Stonehill hitter to capture her second win in three days.
Notes and Numbers:
Game 2: In game two, Merrimack took the early and never gave it up, with
Thiana Brito hitting an RBI double in the second inning, and the lead would be extended with a
Madison Cerpa home run in the fourth and Cerpa continued in the next inning with an RBI single in the fifth. The reigning NEC rookie of the week
Madeline Arvai knocked in two more runs to extended the lead to five. Stonehill would get a consolation run in the fifth but the Warriors would put the finishing touches on the win with a two RBI double from
Ellen Hubbard in the sixth and
Sydney Samuel would smack her first Warriors home run in the seventh to put the capper on the win.
