FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Merrimack College women's basketball was unable to remain undefeated in MAAC play, losing on the road to Fairfield.

The Warriors would get their first crack at the defending MAAC champions heading into enemy territory out of the holiday break. The Stags jumped out to a lead early on with Merrimack trailing 26-11 going into the second quarter.

Madison Roman opened up the second with back to back buckets, making it an 11-point game. Fairfield quickly responded and the score at the half was 41-23 in favor of the Stags. Merrimack scored two buckets early on in the second half but an extended scoring drought led to Fairfield ballooning their lead. The score was 60-36 going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Warriors matched every bucket the Stags had, going on a run midway through the frame to tighten it up. Merrimack did end up falling short against one of the best mid major programs in all of college basketball, losing 72-48.
