Ernest Shelton and
Kevair Kennedy led the way as Merrimack men's basketball team defeated La Salle 66-60 Sunday in the Cathedral Classic at the Palestra.
Shelton scored 17 points, connecting on five 3-pointers, for his eighth time in double-figures in nine games. Kennedy had 16 points, finishing the three-game Cathedral Classic averaging 13.7 points per game. Shelton and Kennedy were teammates at Philly's Father Judge High School.
"It was a great way to bounce back and really defend to get a W over an Atlantic 10 team," Merrimack head coach
Joe Gallo said. "We needed this momentum heading into league play this week. It's time to turn the page to conference play."
Kennedy extended his double-digit point total streak to seven games. He sank five shots from the field and led the team with six assists, which is the second most in his career. Kennedy also led the team with a career high five steals.
Sophomore
Tye Dorset scored in double-figures for the fifth time this season. Dorset hit two 3-pointers and tallied four rebounds and four assists. Dorset averaged exactly 10 points per game during the Cathedral Classic.
Todd Brogna and Andrés Marrero each had seven points and freshman
Dylan Veillette scored a career-high five points.
The Warriors will head back to North Andover for just their second home game of the season, hosting Rider Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the MAAC opener.
