SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA – Sophomore guard
Tye Dorset scored 19 points, but the Merrimack College men's basketball team lost to South Dakota State 75-66 in the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon.
Dorset shot 7-12 from the floor, including 3-6 from beyond the arc and added two rebounds and two assists. Ernet Shelton was the definition of a two-way player, putting up 15 points and tallying three steals plus a block. Graduate Andres Marrero added 13 points and 3 boards for the Warriors.
Todd Brogna led the team in assists with three and got up for another three rebounds.
Merrimack forced 14 turnovers and the Warriors Make Chaos zone defense came out of the halftime locker room on lock down. The Warriors held South Dakota State to just nine points over the first 13 minutes of the second half.
