Kingston, R.I. – The Merrimack College Women's Basketball is set to take on the Rams of the University of Rhode Island this Friday at 6pm.
Who to Watch
Junior
Madison Roman is primed for another productive season for the Warriors. Named MAAC preseason all-conference second team, the forward averaged 8.7 pts and 8.7 rebounds per game last season. Her 269 rebounds last season put her 2
nd in the conference. Roman's ability to score and play for possession is key for the Warriors success. She started her season with a 10 rebound, 9 point, and 5 assist line in just 17 minutes against UMass Boston.
Senior sharpshooter
Lydia Melaschenko kicked off her 2025 season with a career high 18 points. The guard led the Warriors last season with a .356 make percentage from behind the arc splashing 48 threes. Melaschenko finished 7
th in the MAAC with that impressive three-point percentage.
Last year's 2
nd leading scorer,
Paloma Garcia also set for another impactful season. Starting in 31 games last year, the junior guard had 15 double digit point games last season. Garcia's 9.3 pts per game and team leading 56 steals made her vital part of the Warrior play style. In this season's home opener Garcia led the team in buckets, shooting 5-11 (12 pts) from the field, and in steals with five.
Home Sweet Home
The Warriors excelled at home in the 2024-2025 season. With a 10-3 record playing in North Andover, three early non-conference victories prepared the Warriors to be a force in the MAAC. The 10-3 home record was the third best in the conference, despite finishing 6
th in the final standings.
#RollMack
The Warriors saw success in the playoffs last season with a big win over #3 seed Siena. In the 79-72 win over the Saints, Melaschenko and Garcia both put up 10+ points. With the MAAC playoffs set to take place in Atlantic City again in 2026, the Warriors look to shake it up again.
