NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Seamus Powell had a career high three points, and the Merrimack Men's Ice Hockey team made it two wins in two tries over the weekend as they beached the Long Island University Sharks by a score of 4-2 on Saturday night at Lawler Rink.
In the first period, Long Island scored the opening goal just under five minutes into the contest, however they wouldn't hold the lead long as after some slick passing from Justin Gill and Trevor Hoskin, Powell wired in the shot for his first goal of the season to level things at 1-1. LIU would take the lead back in the final two minutes and head into the first intermission up 2-1.
Max Lundgren turned away several shots on a five minute penalty kill and shortly after helped the Warriors get the game back even. Lundgren played the puck to Austin Oravetz who found Parker Lalonde and his drop pass to Powell would go off the post and in for his second of the game to tie things at two goals apiece. Merrimack turned the deficit around four minutes later, as Nick Pierre scored his second in two games to put the Warriors ahead 3-2. Powell added his third point of the night with the assist.
Merrimack would wrap the game up in the third period after Justin Gill forced a turnover that Parker Lalonde jumped on for the late insurance marker, his sixth of the season.
With the net empty, Seamus Powell's hat trick bid from his own zone would just skitter wide left in the dying seconds.
Max Lundgren had an another solid night in between the pipes making 32 saves in his seventh win of the season.
The Warriors have two weeks off before closing 2025 on the road against the University of Vermont on Friday December 29th.
