Women's Basketball Topples Mountaineers In First MAAC Victory

NORTH ANDOVER, M.A. - The Merrimack College Women's Basketball team took down the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's this afternoon by a scored of 60-56. Madison Roman led the way with a 20 points 14 rebound performance. 
 

Madison Roman said "We really found ourselves in this game and I'm very proud of us fighting." Roman shot over 50% from the field in her 20 point effort. It was her second highest points scored of the season while also breaking her season high in rebounds. The Fairfield native nearly doubled her season high in steals with five during the contest.
 

After the matchup Coach Kelly Morrone said "It was a really hard fought game. I thought our players took the calling and embraced an attitude of "we're going to fight for 40 minutes" and it showed through the toughness and tie ups that that game had."


Oralye Kiefer kept her double digit point streak alive with 11 points on the day. Kiefer came down with 11 rebounds to tally her first double double of the year. The grad student added on two blocks. 

Senior guard Lydia Melaschenko hit four 3-pointers in the win scoring 13. She has increased her double digit point streak to four games. Three of which featured four 3-pointers from Melaschenko. She finished one rebound shy of her first 


Paloma Garcia scored nine points and played a season high 31 minutes. Garcia set a season high with six steals.


The Warriors head on the road this Thursday to face conference opponent Rider. Tip off against the Broncs is set for 2:00 P.M.
