Men's Basketball Moves To 2-0 In MAAC With Win Over Fairfield

NORTH ANDOVER, MA.- Kevair Kennedy scored 20 points and sophomore Tye Dorset had 19 as the Merrimack men's basketball team defeated Fairfield 74-63 Sunday to improve to 2-0 in MAAC play.

Kennedy shot 6-of-10 from the field and sank eight free throws. The 20-point effort is his third straight scoring over 15 pts and his 9th straight with over 10. The freshman added four rebounds and four assists, as well as two steals.

Dorset tied his career high in points with 19. The sophomore played in all 40 minutes of the game and hit six shots, three of which were from beyond the arc. He added three rebounds, three assists  and three steals.

Junior Todd Brogna had a season high 13 points, splashing three 3's. He finished just shy of a double-double, coming down with eight rebounds. He also had a block and two steals.

The Warriors went up 19-0 and 29-5, but Fairfield came back to cut it to nine at the half.

"The start was unbelievable, it shows the knockout punch this team can have when we start playing our best basketball, hopefully in January and February," Merrimack head coach Joe Gallo said. "But to give the lead up and just stay poised and kind of dominate with the defense in the second half. We've been talking about going 2-0 (in MAAC play) for quite a while. We can enjoy this for a while now."

Merrimack has now held its last three opponents to 66 points or less. Merrimack won its first two MAAC games for the second time in as many seasons in the conference. The Warriors are now 16-6 all-time in conference play.

KC Ugwuakazi powered his way to five blocked shots to go with seven rebounds. KC has now posted at least five blocks in three of his last four games.

The Warriors played their final home game of the 2025 calendar year, but they head to Princeton Wednesday for a non-conference game. Tip off from the Garden State is at 5pm.
