WORCESTER, MA – The Merrimack swimming & diving team broke four program records on Sunday's final day of the Gompei Invitational on the way to finishing third place among women's teams.
Senior
Kendra Daily set two records, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 51.90 seconds and swimming the 100 individual medley in 59.66, which was good for fourth. Senior
Neva Sa finished second in the 100 free in 52.52, which also beat the previous program record.
Daily and Sa joined senior
Cameron Zuliani and sophomore
Keeley Harney to set the program record in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:35.27, which placed them third.
Freshman
Julia Tejeda finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle (18:10.26) and junior
Casey Bednarek placed fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:12.33).
Junior
Emma McCarthy took fifth in the 50 breaststroke (31.44) and sophomore
Camila De La Rosa took eighth 8th (31.95)
"We had some standout performances throughout the meet, but I am especially happy with finishing third place overall as a team," Merrimack head coach
Erin Cammann said. "The girls built momentum through the weekend, and we had a fantastic final day. They should be proud of themselves--and they should be excited to see what they can accomplish by the end of the season."
The Warriors third-place finish was their best at the Gompei Invitational. Merrimack returns to action for Senior day on Jan. 23 at Phillips Academy's Pan Athletics Center at 4 p.m.
