Men's Hockey Falls in Opening Game of The Weekend to Vermont

North Andover, MA.-- The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team dropped their opening contest of the weekend to the Vermont Catamounts by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at Lawler Arena.

In the first period Merrimack would kill off two Vermont penalties before converting on one of their own as Zach Bookman picked out Nick Pierre on the cross-ice feed and launched the shot into the top right corner to put Merrimack in front. On the other side of the ice, Max Lundgren withstood the Catamount barrage stopping 15 shots in the opening 20 minutes.

Merrimack's penalty woes continued in the next period as the Warriors were called for three infractions in the second. Vermont cashed in on their third in the final two minutes to carry a one goal lead into the final period.

In the third, Vermont would add an insurance goal with seven minutes to play, and added one more shorthanded into the empty net. Michael Emerson scored a late consolation for the Warriors, but the Catamounts would coast home from there.
