Men's Basketball Defeated By Marist Sunday

North Andover, Mass. – Merrimack College men's basketball lost a conference matchup on Sunday afternoon to Marist University 61-60. Adam "Budd" Clark led the way for the Warriors in the loss, scoring 19 points. Bryan Etumnu finished the game with 13 points. Sean Trumper added 10 points in the defeat.

  • Trumper knocked down a three in the first Merrimack possession of the afternoon to give his team an early lead. The Red Foxes answered back with a three of their own to tie the game. Devon Savage found the bottom of the net from deep to put the Warriors up two. Marist then added five points to go up three. Merrimack battled back tying the game at 13 with 10 minutes left in the first half. After going down three, Clark hit a jumper to bring the Warriors within one. A dunk by Etumnu and a layup by Tye Dorset gave Merrimack a three-point lead with six minutes on the clock. Both teams battled back and forth heading into halftime, not letting the lead get over three points. The Red Foxes would head into halftime up by one point.
  • Matt Becht hit a three to open the second half, putting Merrimack up two. Marist quickly answered back with a bucket, tying the game. They then added five straight points to go up by five. With 13 minutes left in the game, the Red Foxes still found themselves up five. A Clark jumper cut the lead down to three. Marist answered with a three to go up six. After some back and forth play from both squads, Marist found themselves up three with nine minutes to go. Trumper drove the lane for two, cutting the advantage to one. The Red Foxes hit a jumper to go up three. Becht nailed a three to tie the game at 51. Marist hit two free throws to go up two. Clark then added three straight points to put Merrimack up one. The Red Foxes converted two free throws to retake the lead. The Warriors scored three straight points to go up three. Marist nailed a three to tie the game at 58. With two minutes left, Etumnu dove the lane for two, giving Merrimack a two-point advantage. The Red Foxes added three points to go up one. In the final seconds Etumnu laid the ball in as the buzzer went off, after review he got the shot off too late.

  • The Warriors forced 17 turnovers and scored 17 points off the giveaways.
