North Andover, MA- The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team fought hard but fell short in their comeback effort against the New Hampshire Wildcats by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night.
Merrimack (7-20-3, 4-16-3): 2, New Hampshire (15-14-1, 11-12-0: 3
Margaux Favre made her return to the Warrior net for the first time since November, and made eight saves in her first period back from her absence, but UNH would grab the lead just past the six-minute mark and nearly have a second, but that goal was chopped off for goalie interference. Merrimack would hold the shots on goal advantage but were unable to get on the board in the first.
The Warriors got on the board to tie the game in the second period as
Sage Babey would score through the five hole after being left alone in front of the net, but New Hampshire would score their second of the contest shortly after to carry a one goal lead into the third.
In the third, New Hampshire would double their lead just 35 seconds in, but Merrimack would cut the lead back to one on the powerplay as
Payten Evans point shot was deflected by
Solveig Gisler and the puck would sneak past the New Hampshire goaltender. With the momentum in hand, the Warriors would eventually end the period with 15 shots on goal, but they were unable to complete the comeback as the Wildcats just held on to win the contest.
