Men’s Basketball Defeated in MAAC Semifinals

Atlantic City, N.J. – Merrimack College men's basketball team fell to Mount St. Mary's on Friday night in the MAAC semifinals. Sean Trumper had a season-high 20 points in the loss. Adam "Budd" Clark was the only other Warrior to finish in double figures with 13.

  • The Mount got the scoring going with a layup, a little over a minute into the game. Matt Becht then found the bottom of the net from deep to send Merrimack up one. Trumper then scored four straight points to increase the lead to five. A three by Trumper with just over 10 minutes left to play in the half, gave Merrimack a four-point advantage. The Mount hit a jumper to go cut the lead to two. Trumper drove the lane for two, making the advantage four. Both teams battled back and forth. With seven minutes to play, Trumper scored five straight points to put Merrimack up five. With two minutes to play, Mount St. Mary's tied the game at 24. After knocking down a free throw late in the first half, they would head to the locker room up one.
  • Becht drove the lane for two points, putting Merrimack up one early in the second half. Both teams continued to trade buckets for a number of minutes in the second half. After a run, highlighted by four points from Becht. After two Mount free throws, Tye Dorset drove the lane for two, getting the lead back up to seven. Mount St. Mary's battled back, getting the lead down to one point. Devon Savage hit a three to push it back up to four. With eight minutes to play the game was tied at 45. Trumper slammed one home to put the Warriors up two. The Mount quickly responded tying the game at 47. Clark hit a jumper, putting Merrimack on top again. The Mount then went on a six-point run, taking a four-point lead. Clark nailed a three to put the lead down to one. Mount St. Mary's hit a free throw to make it a one possession game. Savage found the bottom of the net from deep to put Merrimack up one with under two minutes left in the game. Good free throw shooting down the stretch would give Mount the win.
