ROCK HILL, South Carolina. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team fell to the Winthrop University Eagles 18-17 in a hard fought overtime battle on Saturday afternoon.
Lindsay Atkinson led the way with six goals and four assists in the tight loss.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the second minute with a goal from
Ashlyn Campbell. The Eagles had an offensive explosion to pull ahead 3-1.
Lindsay Atkinson was quick to answer, netting her first just seconds after
Sophia Ingenito won the draw. From there,
Kaitlin Roche slotted one through the pipes, for the first woman-up goal of the afternoon. The Eagles received their second yellow card which gave
Lindsay Atkinson another scoring opportunity. Atkinson would secure the hat-trick with 1:35 left in the quarter off a free position shot.
Sophia Ingenito doubled the Warriors lead to close out the first quarter 6-3. Merrimack road this momentum into the second quarter, as
Allison Lamphere netted one under a minute into play. The Eagles capitalized on a Warriors foul, scoring a woman-up goal followed by a successful free position shot to cut the deficit to two. The Warriors remained dominant, scoring three unanswered goals behind the work of Atkinson and the
Brooke Brennan –
Ashlyn Campbell duo. The Eagles were successful on another free position attempt to remain within striking distance however, another penalty would allow
Ashlyn Campbell to find the back of the net. The Eagles committed four fouls in the final two minutes of the half, granting the Warriors four free position attempts, two of which they capitalized on to make it 17-13.
In the second half, Winthrop buried their eighth goal off a blue and gold turnover.
Hailey Schnider was quick to answer netting one off a critical
Kristina Castellano ground ball pickup. The Warriors added two more goals behind the wheels of Campbell and Lamphere but the Eagles got the final words of the third, scoring twice to ease the deficit. They carried this energy into the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to make it a two point game. Atkinson broke the score drought with 6 minutes left, however Winthrop would score three more points to tie things up. In overtime, the Eagles successfully converted on a free position attempt with 48 seconds left in overtime.
