Softball Splits First MAAC Doubleheader With Manhattan

Riverdale, N.Y.-- Merrimack Softball opened MAAC conference play with a doubleheader split, with a 3-1 win in game one, before dropping game two, 3-0.
 
Game 1: After a scoreless first three innings, Merrimack would broke the deadlock in a big way, as Gabby Kaduson lined a homerun over the right field fence. Merrimack would add two more runs in the inning as Madeline Arvai would score on an error after a Eva Issitt bunt single and the Warriors would get their third as Ellen Hubbard singled into center, scoring Sofia Palyan.
With the three run lead in place, Merrimack's pitching was the story as Anna Gedacht went five, allowing one run on two hits, before Emma Prahin entered the game to toss two scoreless innings to collect the save.
 
Notes and Numbers
  • Eva Issitt went a perfect 3-3 at the plate.
  • Ellen Hubbard was the other Warrior with multiple hits with two.
  • McKayla Kortes, Madeline Arvai, and Gabby Kaduson all had a hit each.
  • Kaduson's home run was her second of the season.
  • Anna Gedacht won her first game of the season.
  • Emma Prahin notched her first career save.
     
    Game 2:  In game two, the Jaspers scored all three runs that they needed in the opening inning. Sarah Shurtleff would allow only two more hits in her other three innings of work, before Sofia Palyan would enter the game with two innings pitched, striking out three.
On offense, Gabby Kaduson and Abby Choquette both had hits for the Warriors and they also had multiple runners in scoring position but could not push them across the plate as Manhattan took the victory in game two.

The Warriors finish their first MAAC action tomorrow with the series on the line against Manhattan, First Pitch is at 12 PM.
