Men’s Basketball Closes Regular Season with Decisive Victory Over Marist

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Merrimack College men's basketball team downed Marist University on Thursday night 75-53. Adam "Budd" Clark scored a game-high 22 points in the victory, he also added 10 assists for his third double-double of the season. Bryan Etumnu was the only other Warrior in double figures with 16 points in the victory. The Merrimack defense forced 20 turnovers and scored 23 points off the giveaways.

Rapid Recap
  • Both teams battled for the first five minutes of the game, trading buckets. The score was tied at 11. After an Etumnu free throw, Matt Becht knocked down a three to put the Warriors up by four. The three from Becht opened the floodgates for Merrimack. The Warriors went on a nine-point run to put the road team up by 13. The Red Foxes stopped the run with a jumper. Clark answered with a jumper to send the lead back up to 13. Marist battled back going on a 12-point run to flip the game and go up by one. Malik Edmead hit a three to put Merrimack back up by two. Etumnu found the bottom of the net from deep with only a few seconds left in the half to send Merrimack into halftime up five.
  • The Warriors came out of the gates swinging in the second half, opening the stanza on a 10-point run, going up by 15. The Red Foxes battled back, cutting the lead down to 10 six minutes into the second half. Clark nailed a three to put Merrimack back up by 13. With 11 minutes to go in the game, Marist had cut the advantage down to nine. Clark and Sean Trumper then combined for four point to swell the lead back up to 14 points. The teams traded scored for a number of minutes. Edmead drove the lane for two, putting Merrimack up by 16. Tye Dorset hit his first three of the night with seven minutes to play making the lead 19. The Red Foxes hit a three to cut the lead down to 16. The Warriors then went on a four-point run to put the lead over 20. Marist could not mount a comeback. Merrimack would win the game by 22.

  • Both Edmead and Trumper finished the game with nine points.  
  • Four Warriors finished the game with a team-high four rebounds in the victory.
