DeShiro's Walkoff Catapults Baseball to Win Over Dartmouth

ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College baseball team completed a walkoff come from behind win over Dartmouth on Wednesday night.

The Basics
Score: Merrimack 6 | Dartmouth 5
Records: Merrimack (14-29-1) | Dartmouth (11-22)

How it Happened
Nick Hunkele started the game on the mound for the Warriors and he was excellent through his three innings of work. He gave up no hits, struck out a pair and allowed only one base runner aboard. He was relieved by Harry Painter who got himself out of a pair of jams to keep the game scoreless through four innings of play. It wasn't until the seventh inning when the scoring took place. Dartmouth added five runs in their half of the inning but Merrimack made sure to respond to the Big Green surge. The Warriors scored four runs starting with a Jayden Hamilton RBI single and capped off with a two RBI double from Jack Andrews. The eighth was quiet and Dawson Logie came in to pitch in the ninth. He held Dartmouth down and kept the game at 5-4 with the Warriors getting one final chance to extend or win the game. The bases got filled up rather quickly and Cavan Brady pinch hit and drew himself a walk to drive in a run, tying it up at six. The bases remained loaded and Matt DeShiro stepped up to the plate as another pinch hitter. The freshman infielder played the hero tonight as he smacked a ball into centerfield to drive in the game winning run and complete the comeback win. This marks the first walkoff victory of the Warriors season to this point.
