Women's Lacrosse Stumbles Against Iona

NORTH ANDOVER, MA. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team fell to Iona University by a score of 17-9 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Tia Boyle added eight saves to lead the Warriors defensive efforts.

Rapid Recap
The Gaels were quick to drive to the net, scoring the first two goals of the game however, Lindsay Atkinson netted one in the fifth minute to kick-start a 4-0 run for the Warriors. Merrimack would earn back-to-back free position attempts where Grace Boneu and Olivia White successfully converted on. To cap off the massive run, Brooke Brennan scored a man-up goal assisted by Sophia Ingenito. The Gaels continued to put pressure on the Warriors offense and would ignite a 4-0 run of their own to close out the first 6-4. The Warriors came out dominant in the second quarter as Lindsay Atkinson scored to cut the deficit to one. Iona scored another however, Olivia White converted on her second free position attempt of the afternoon to keep the Gaels within reach. The Warriors would fire three shots on net however, the Gaels defense refused to budge. Iona would score three more times to extend a four point lead heading into the half.
 
In the third quarter, it was Atkinson again who silenced the Gaels scoring streak. Iona would control the rest of the quarter, scoring four more times to go up 8 however, Tia Boyle came up big between the pipes with six saves to keep Iona within reach. Iona opened the scoring in the final quarter however, Allison Lamphere was quick to respond netting one to get the offense rolling. The Gaels added one more goal before Atkinson added her fourth of the afternoon. After a fierce battle the Warriors were unable to make up lost ground and lost 17-9.

The Warriors return to action Wednesday April 9th when they face the Quinnipiac University Bobcats. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
