How it Happened
  • The first game of the series was a duel between the two aces for these squads. Both pitchers were great throughout as Andrew Heffernan ended up going a complete game giving up just seven hits but five earned runs came along with that. The Merrimack bats were all over the baseball but could not seem to string together enough hits. They totaled 11 hits but had just three runners cross home plate. They ended up losing the first game in a low scoring 5-3 affair.
  • The second game of this series was an unbelievable scene. Siena pounced on the Warriors to open this game scoring the first 11 runs through the first three innings. Merrimack did not quit on this one at all as the offense started to heat up in the fourth inning after a pair of solo homeruns from Harry Painter and Cavan Brady. Still the deficit loomed large for the Warriors with the Saints adding two more in their half of the fifth to go up 13-2. A Harry Painter sacrifice fly made it 13-3 to end the fifth and a scoreless sixth made way to an offensive explosion in the seventh and eighth inning for Merrimack. Logan Castellano sparked it with a homerun, and after a trio of runners got on base, Frankie Ferrentino smashed a grand slam to make it interesting. Still, the Warriors were far from done as the lineup turned over back to Castellano who drove in three more on a double to make it 13-11. The pitching staff held down the Saints bats in the top of eighth and Merrimack proceeded to tack on five more runs off of four hits to snag their first lead of the game at 16-13. Cole Yennaco entered in the ninth on the mound for the Warriors to complete the comeback win and add his third save of the season.
  • The final game of the series was all Saints from the jump. Siena scored nine runs through the first three innings while Merrimack could not get the bats going. The road Saints scored just one more run through the next six innings of play but the Warriors we're unable to get a single run on the board losing game three, 10-0.
