Football Falls to Stony Brook Saturday

Stony Brook, N.Y. – The Merrimack College football team fell in a matchup with Stony Brook University on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
Stony Brook struck early. With 12:04 remaining in the first, Michael Mannino drilled a 49-yard field goal to give the Seawolves a 3–0 lead. Later in the quarter, Chris Zellous connected with Dez Williams on a 3-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 10–0. Merrimack responded early in the second: Ayden Pereira found Keshawn Brown on a 19-yard touchdown pass, cutting the lead to 10–7. But Stony Brook regained momentum — Mannino added a 39-yard field goal, then Roland Dempster ran in a 2-yard touchdown just before halftime to make it 20–7.

The Seawolves continued to pull away early in the third when Dempster scored again on a 5-yard run, with a two-point conversion reception from Williams, extending the lead to 28–7.
Merrimack tried to respond: Carlton Thai knocked through a 47-yard field goal, making it 28–10.
Stony Brook put the result beyond doubt when Dempster capped the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, closing out the game at 35–10.

Notes and Numbers
Kendal Sims led the Warriors with 10 tackles on the afternoon. Sims also led the team with 1.5 sacks.
RJ Chapman had a forced fumble and an interception in the loss.
Bertin Placide had two pass break ups.

The Warriors get back to action next Saturday against Robert Morris University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
