North Andover, MA-- The Merrimack Men's Hockey team fell 4-2 in the first game of their weekend set with the UMass Minutemen on Friday night at Lawler Arena.
Caelan Fitzpatrick opened the scoring for the second game in a row as he potted a wraparound shot for his fourth goal of the season. Caden Cranston and Parker Lalonde picked up assists.
After UMass tied, then took the lead in the game, Merrimack would get back on level terms (2-2) late in the second period. Trevor Hoskin lasered a shot right off the draw after being awarded a powerplay, for his fifth goal of the season only four seconds into the man advantage. Cranston and Justin Gill combined for the assists. This is the sixth consecutive game where Merrimack has scored on the powerplay.
The Minutemen took the lead 3-2 early in the third and put the game away with an empty netter in the final two minutes.
The Warriors look for the split in Amherst as they face the Minutemen Saturday at the Mullins Center at 7:00 PM.
