Orono, ME— The Merrimack Women's Hockey Team hung tough but couldn't complete the sweep over the Maine Black Bears, falling by a score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Alfond Arena.
After another scoreless opening period, Merrimack again would score the first goal of the contest in the late stages of the second. After being awarded a power play, McKenzie Cerrato would win the faceoff to Kerttu Lehmus who snapped home the shot for her fourth goal of the season.
After Maine tied things up and took a 2-1 lead at the midway point of the third, Merrimack would tie the score at 2-2 after Lehmus forced a turnover on a bad pass and the puck ricocheted to Emma Pfeffer who finished the breakaway for her fifth goal in six games and tenth goal this season.
Maine would retake the lead seconds later and finish the contest with an empty net goal.
