NIAGARA FALLS, NY — The Merrimack College women's volleyball team will head to western New York this Friday and Saturday for a pair of conference matchups with Niagara and Canisius.
It's been quite the turn around for head coach Ken Nichols and his squad who last weekend were able to pick up victories one and two on the season, and they came at no better time. Friday, the Warriors were able to come out on top against at the time number three ranked team in the Metro, Marist in a five setter thriller. Junior outside hitter Mckenna Shotwell was the fire power for the Warriors in that one, posting her season high in kills with 20 while also adding in 10 digs to make it a double-double.
The momentum continued to roll through. Saturday the Warriors squared off with at the time number two ranked team in the Metro, Siena, and came out on top in four sets. In that one it was freshman outside hitter Tami Afolalu who put together her best performance of the season, registering 14 kills in the win, good for her season high.
The Warriors will look to build on their win streak this weekend with two matchups on the horizon. Friday, the Warriors will head to the border and take on Niagara. First serve is set for 6 pm and you can catch the action live on ESPN+.
On Saturday, the Warriors will have a date with Canisius. First serve for that one set for 2 pm, streaming live on gogriffs.com.
