BURLINGTON, VT— Madison Vittands scored twice as the Merrimack women's hockey team completed the weekend unbeaten following a 3-2 win over Vermont on Sunday afternoon.
Merrimack got the board first when Mady Cipolla sprung Stina Sandberg for a breakaway bid. Cipolla turned it into her sixth goal of the season.
Vermont scored the tying goal midway through the game, but the Warriors regained control as Vittands scored twice in two minutes. The two tallies sent the Warriors into the third period with a 3-1 lead.
The Catamounts cut the lead to one early in the third and appeared to tie the game in the final minute. However, the goal was overturned following a successful coaches challenge, and the Warriors hung on from there.
Merrimack returns to Lawler Arena for their final home game of the regular season when its hosts the Maine Black Bears at Lawler Arena on Thursday.
