Men's Basketball Runs Away With Rout Against Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The Merrimack men's basketball team wrapped up its two-game road trip with a dominant win against Rider, 73-47, at Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Merrimack, which sits in first place in the MAAC, improved to 15-9 on the campaign and 12-2 in conference play. The Warriors officially punched their ticket to the MAAC Championships with the victory.

Joe Gallo's group never trailed in the contest after a scorching-hot start (67% from the field in the first half) propelled Merrimack to a 20-point lead at the break. The Warriors turned the ball over just twice in the first half with a 14-2 advantage in bench points. On the other end of the floor, Merrimack's suffocating defense held Rider to 31% from the field and 21% (3-for-14) from long range.

Tye Dorset finished with a team-high 18 points (7-for-8 from the feld) for the Warriors, who had four players finish in double figures. Ernest Shelton (15 points), Kevair Kennedy (14 points, five assists) and Andres Marrero (10 points, three rebounds) all helped the Warriors run away with it.

Merrimack will host Marist at Lawler Arena on Thursday night.
