NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. –
Trevor Hoskin scored two goals to lift the No. 8 Merrimack College men's hockey team past No. 9 UMass-Lowell, 5-3, in the opening round of the Hockey East Tournament at Lawler Arena on Wednesday.
Hoskin scored his first goal of the game just 72 seconds into the contest before his second gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead at 15:30 of the second period.
Merrimack never trailed in the game with
Parker Lalonde providing some much-appreciated insurance, giving the Warriors a 5-3 lead at 18:57 of the third period.
Nick Pierre scored a power-play goal seven minutes into the second period, giving the hosts a 3-1 lead. Merrimack was 1-for-2 on the man advantage and turned away each of UMass-Lowell's three power-play opportunities. The River Hawks had the chance to cut Merrimack's lead with both of their power-plays coming midway through the second.
Max Lundgren finished with 23 saves.
The Warriors will travel to No. 1 Providence on Saturday.
