WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The Merrimack College baseball team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Canisius in the opening round of the MAAC Baseball Championships at Heritage Financial Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Merrimack advanced to face top-seeded Rider on Thursday at 11 a.m. ET.
The victory was a product of an impressive performance from right-handed starter James Borsari as well as fellow relievers Colby Barker and Michael Bradshaw.
Borsari threw four shutout innings with Barker coming out in relief to pitch 2 2/3 frames before Bradshaw closed the game with 1 1/3 of his own. The three pitchers allowed a total of four hits combined.
Barker, who earned the win, broke the program record for wins in a season (nine).
Merrimack's hurlers were complemented by another solid showing at the plate. The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning, a pair of Canisius errors leading to a run-scoring single from Jayden Hamilton.
Both Brooks Craigue and Joey Frammartino had two hits and two RBI in the win. Craigue and Frammartino recorded back-to-back two-run doubles during Merrimack's four-run seven inning, which extended the Warriors' lead to 7-0 after seven frames.
Matt DeShiro (single, walk, hit by pitch) reached base three times while Christian Scanlon walked twice and scored twice.
