RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team will open up conference play in New York this weekend with Manhattan on Friday and Iona on Saturday.
The Warriors are a perfect 4-0 in their head-to-head series against the Manhattan Jaspers, a matchup set for Friday night at 6 p.m.
Following their matchup at Manhattan, the Warriors will square off against the Gaels. Iona was picked to finish eighth in the Metro Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. First serve from New Rochelle is set for Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
During the non-conference portion of the season, it was the tandem of junior outside hitter Mckenna Shotwell and sophomore opposite hitter Jocelyn Hammerstrand who led the offense for head coach Ken Nichols.
Shotwell was named to the UConn Invitational All-Tournament team last weekend after she compiled 25 kills in three matches. Shotwell has now eclipsed the century mark for kills this season. Hammerstrand also has notched 100-plus kills on the season. On the defensive side, it has been senior libero Ella Maldonado, who has tallied 144 digs. Senior setter Sophia Debonis has been the main conductor of the offense with 200-plus assists on the season.
