In 2023, Bryan Robbat enters his eighth year as a member of the Merrimack football coaching staff. Robbat oversees the team's Defensive Backs, is the program's Assistant Head Coach, Recruiting Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator.
Merrimack finished the 2023 season 2nd in the NEC boasting an 8-3 record, making it the most wins in a season in their program’s history. Robbat’s Defensive Backs ranked 1st in the NEC for completion percentage (53.9%) and 2nd for pass efficiency. Two of Robbat’s Cornerbacks, Shayne Butler and Garry Rosemond finished in the top three for interceptions in the NEC, each returning one back for a touchdown. Garry Rosemond was also an All-Conference 1st team selection who finished 2nd in interceptions (4) 2nd in Passes defended (10).
Special teams under Robbat’s coaching finished 1st in the NEC with (36 yards) net punting, 2nd in the NEC with (41.4 yards net kickoff), 2nd in the NEC in average Kickoff return yards with (20.4 yards) and one touchdown, 1st in the NEC and tied for 3rd in FCS with blocked punts (4) including one for a touchdown.
In 2021, Robbat had three Cornerbacks rank in the top four for passes defended in the NEC. He also coached and developed two All-NEC selections, Caleb Holden and Darion McKenzie. Caleb Holden became a two time all Conference Cornerback who spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and later won the CFL Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts in 2022. Robbat was a contributing factor to why the Merrimack Defense ended the season being 1st in the NEC and 3rd in the nation for completion percentage, and 2nd in the nation for pass defense efficiency. Robbat handled the Kick Return unit which finished atop the NEC with an average of 23.3yds per return.
In 2019 Robbat coached the Cornerbacks. The Merrimack Warriors’ secondary were among the best in the Northeast Conference. The secondary, limiting opposing teams to a 51.3 completion percentage, the lowest among NEC programs. Individually, Robbat helped develop Caleb Holden and Darion McKenzie, who ranked second and third respectively in interceptions in the NEC. The former also ranked third in PBU (12) while the latter finished in fourth (11) in the conference.
After spending the 2018 campaign with the University of New Hampshire, as a Defensive Quality Control, assisting with the Defensive backs and helping on special teams. Robbat returned to the Warriors.
Robbat spent the previous three years (2015-17) in North Andover coaching for Merrimack College. During his first stint, Robbat led the Defensive Backs during the fall of 2017. He had overseen Cornerbacks since the 2016 season and was also in charge of defensive quality control upon his arrival in 2015. He was also named the team's recruiting coordinator at the conclusion of the 2016 season and played a major role in compiling one of the most promising recruiting classes in program history during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Robbat graduated from UMass Dartmouth in May of 2015 with a degree in History. While attending UMass Dartmouth Robbat spent nearly four years (Sept. 2011 - May 2015) as an assistant football coach. During his tenure, he oversaw the Wide Receivers, Running Backs, and Defensive backs.
While being a student at North Andover High School, Robbat started his coaching career as an assistant coach.
