Michael Kamal is in his 16th year at Merrimack College in 2022-23, as well as his seventh as Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in the fall of 2015 after spending the previous eight-plus years as Director of Strength and Conditioning.
Kamal, who was a finalist for the prestigious 2017 National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Collegiate Coach of the Year award, has developed the strength and conditioning department at Merrimack, which has transcended on the field. Leading a staff that consists of two full-time assistants and five graduate fellows, Kamal's efforts have contributed to the Warriors annually ranking among the top Division II programs in the region, while Merrimack's two Division I men's and women's ice hockey programs continue to compete against top-tier programs in Hockey East.
Since Kamal's arrival, the Strength and Conditioning Department has helped produce:

Kamal oversees a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2013 with the completion of the new varsity strength and conditioning center, one of the cornerstones of the 2012-13 Merrimack Athletic Center Expansion Project. The 5,000-square-foot weight room contains 30 yards of synthetic turf, rolled rubber flooring, 10 recessed platforms with racks, 10 full sets of custom-engraved rubber plates, and much more for Merrimack's now-24 varsity sports to utilize.
From 2010-14, Kamal served as the Chairperson for Merrimack's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). During his tenure, he aided in the development of the now-annual Midnight Madness event, while organizing fundraisers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Toys-for-Tots.
Kamal also brought Judgment Day to Merrimack in 2009 and has helped establish and sustain a long-term relationship between Merrimack and The Program.
Kamal is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certified Coach (PN1).
Kamal came to Merrimack from Bucknell University where he served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for football (Division I FCS), responsible for all aspects of training year round.
Kamal is a 2003 graduate of Keene State College, where he was a three-year captain of the rugby team. He went on to earn a master’s degree in applied exercise science from Springfield College. He has interned with Mike Boyle, Holy Cross, and University of Iowa Football.
Kamal resides in Derry, New Hampshire, with his wife, Paige and their daughter, Autumn.
