Jermaine Cooper Sr. joins the Merrimack College Women's Basketball staff for his first year in North Andover.
Cooper has an extensive list of coaching experience since graduating from Ohio State University in 2009. Cooper got his first coaching job in 2011 for the Ohio Glory Elite Girl's AAU program as the Associate 17u Head Basketball Coach. He was responsible for recruiting as well as player development within the program. After over 2 years with the team, he moved into a player development role with Binghamton University. During his time at Binghamton, along with player development, he was the programs liaison for the student success center, managed travel schedules, practice players, and team managers as well as organized the teams video exchange program.
In 2014 Cooper Sr. became the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for PennWest University-Clarion in Pennsylvania. He was responsible for skill development within the program. Along with that he scheduled team meals and travel. During his time as the Golden Eagles assistant coach he was the primary recruiter for the team. Aided by his strong coaching network skills he was able to recruit high level players to join the team. Cooper was able to land Tyra Polite (All PSAC West Honors, 2016-2017), Keke Messiah (Led team in scoring in 2020-2021), and Sierra Bermudez (All PSAC Second Team as a Freshman, 2021-2022). Cooper also made sure to hold weekly study halls to maintain academic success within the team. In addition he was in charge of creating detailed scouting reports for coaching staff, players, and managers.
In August of 2022 Cooper took over the reins of the PennWest University-Clarion Women's Basketball Team as the Interim Head Coach. He was in control of overseeing all aspects of a competitive Division II women's basketball team.
Cooper graduated from Ohio State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Technology. He went on to get his Masters of Science in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2016.
