Chris Hall continues in his fifth season as a member of the women's ice hockey coaching staff in 2022-23.
Hall’s contributions to the defense were prominent in 2021-22. Goaltender Emma Gorski posted a career best 51 saves at UConn (10/29) for her first shutout win in her collegiate career. She also had a four-game winning streak from Oct. 29 to Nov. 12, including back-to-back shutouts. Gorski ended the year with eight wins and a tie, holding a 3.28 goals against average and .893 save percentage. She also was recognized as a two-time Hockey East Goaltender of the Week.
Top defensive pair Teghan Inglis and Julia MacLean also made their mark on the Hockey East leaderboards in 21-22, with both sitting in the top five in the league in blocked shots, as Inglis blocked 69 for third most in the league, and MacLean stopping 64 to tie for fourth in the league.
Three of Hall’s season featured a penalty kill efficiency over 81 percent, with the team’s best mark during his tenure coming in 2018-19 where the Warriors killed 87.2% of penalties on the year.
Hall joined the Warriors in the 2018-19 season after spending six years at Colby College (Division III/NESCAC), where he was an assistant coach with the men's ice hockey program, as well as head coach of the golf program.
Hall was the recruiting coordinator for the Mules helped Colby reach five NESCAC playoff appearances and one NCAA Frozen Four appearance. His last season was particularly special, as Colby won its first NESCAC Championship and reached its first-ever Frozen Four. That came on the heels of the Mules' 2016-17 season, which marked the program's best regular season finish in the NESCAC standings in 10 years.
On the ice, Hall worked primarily with the defense and goaltenders at Colby while overseeing the penalty kill. Under his guidance, the Mules led the NESCAC in scoring from defensemen in 2015-16 while finishing third in the league in penalty kill percentage. He also helped coach the league's scoring champion and had five forwards rank in the top-10 in scoring. His goaltenders ranked third nationally in save percentage in 2017-18, while he reduced the team's goals against average every season. He recruited two ECHL signees (the first two in Colby history), one first team all-league selection and three second team all-conference honorees.
Hall worked with both the University of Massachusetts and Amherst College men's hockey teams the previous two years before his arrival at Colby. As a volunteer assistant coach and goaltender coach for Amherst, he helped coach the ACHA, USCHO and NESCAC Player of the Year. At UMass, Hall collaborated on practice planning and game strategy, as well as presenting scouting reports and teaching film. He coordinated all the day-to-day operations of the Division I program, including the Minutemen's appearance in Frozen Fenway 2012.
Hall also was an undergraduate student assistant coach at University of Notre Dame from 2005 to 2010. He has also worked for the Minnesota Hockey Camps as a coach and head counselor.
Hall has a master's degree in sport management from UMass. He earned his bachelor's degree in history from Notre Dame in 2009 and also secured his professional teacher's license from Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in 2010.
