Former men’s lacrosse standout Max Allen will enter his second season as a member of the coaching staff for the Merrimack College women’s lacrosse program in 2019-20, serving as assistant coach as the Warriors begin their first season in the Northeast Conference (NEC) as a reclassifying NCAA Division I institution.
Allen helped Merrimack make history in the spring of 2019 as part of an incredible run through the Northeast-10 Conference Championship to wrap up the program's Division II era in storybook fashion. Allen -- who was mostly responsible for an offense that scored 10 or more goals from March 9 until the end of the season -- helped the Warriors post three remarkable upsets as the No. 7 seed in the 2019 NE10 Championship, including a 16-14 stunner on the road at eventual national champion Adelphi in the opening round, a wire-to-wire 15-11 victory over New Haven in the semifinals and, finally, a wild 10-9 victory against undefeated and top-ranked Le Moyne College to shock the world and take home the program’s first-ever NE10 title.
Merrimack would finish the year with 249 total goals (5th/NE10) and averaged 13.11 goals per game as a team (6th), while their overall shooting percentage was among the best in the country and ranked fifth in the conference, as well. Allen helped lead 2019 graduate Amber Feminella to All-America honors, the first for the program in eight years. Feminella and rising junior Haley Bartlett were two of Merrimack's three all-region selections that Allen helped coach to the conference championship.
Allen returns to Merrimack following a tremendous playing career that saw him graduate as one of the all-time top offensive players in school history. He appeared in 65 games and finished with 181 points (133g, 48a), earning a pair of USILA All-America accolades in addition to being twice named an NEILA All-New England selection and all-conference first team selection. He ranked third all-time in career goals and fifth in all-time scoring at the conclusion of his career and was part of three straight teams that reached the NCAA Championship, including the national runner-up squad in 2017.
The New Jersey native graduated from Merrimack with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2017 before earning his Master of Exercise Science at Merrimack last year. He interned in the strength and conditioning departments both at Merrimack (2016-17) and Tufts (2017-18) over the past two years. He previously served as a coach at Trilogy Lacrosse (Jersey City, N.J.) and Homegrown Lacrosse (North Andover, Mass.).
