Sophomore Sami Tavernier of the men's ice hockey team has been named this week's Fuddruckers Male Athlete of the Week after his heroics helped the Warriors split a weekend series up at Maine.

Tavernier scored his second overtime goal of the season on Saturday night, helping Merrimack defeat Maine by a 3-2 final for a huge Hockey East victory. The second-year Warrior also had an assist on Friday night, which was another overtime game for the Navy and Gold that was ultimately won by Maine.

In the midst of a season-long four-game point streak, Tavernier has pushed his point total up to 18 on the year on the back of eight goals and 10 assists. He ranks fourth overall on the team in scoring and is the highest-scoring underclassman. He also had an overtime winner in a 3-2 road win at Connecticut on Jan. 5.

Tavernier and the rest of the Warriors return to action tomorrow night at Massachusetts, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
