Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at Codfish Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. – In what was their best performance as a team so far this season, the Merrimack College men's cross country team placed second in a 16-team field at the Codfish Bowl in Boston on Saturday morning.

What They Said
Head coach Chris Cameron, "We ran the race as a workout for miles 2, 3 and 4 and ran miles 1 and 5 much quicker really to focus on race tactics and strategy. It was a great sign to see us finish in second with the way we ran the race. Overall a good day of running."

How It Happened

  • For the third of three races this season, junior Keith Steinbrecher (Wading River, N.Y.) led the way for the Warriors with a ninth-place finish in the 162-runner field, posting a time of 27:03 in the 8k race. Fellow juniorChristian Gentile (Melrose, Mass.) finnished right along side Steinbrecher, posting the same time in a 10th-place finish.
  • Two spots behind Merrimack's top finishers was senior James Wegman (Sandwich, Mass.), who has been in the Warriors top pack in all three meets this year. Wegman finished in 12th Saturday with a time of 27:21.
  • In his first meet of the 2016 season, senior TJ Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) cracked the Warriors' top five finishers and the top-25 of the meet, finishing 24th with a time of 28:03.
  • Freshman Noah Davis (Derry, N.H.) again ran his way into the top-five finishers for Merrimack, while also placing in the top-30 to help the Warriors' second-place finish. Davis finished 27th at the meet with a time of 28:06.

Up Next
The Warriors have two weeks off to rest up and prepare for the postseason, when they will participate in the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, October 8.
