NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Coming off a 1-1 weekend at the Georgian Court Invitational, the Merrimack College women's basketball program begins Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday night when Merrimack travels to Assumption to face the Greyhounds at 5:30 p.m. from Laska Gymnasium

Last Time Out:
  • The Warriors opened the season with a 78-60 victory over the host Lions at the GCU Invite and followed that up with a near-upset of No. 25 Caldwell, falling by a 66-64 final
  • Freshman Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.) was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week after emerging from the opening weekend among the top-10 in the league in scoring (20.0 points per game) and rebounding (9.5 rebounds per game)
  • Casey played particularly well against the nationally ranked Cougars, posting a 21-point, 17-rebound effort. The 17 boards were the most for a member of the Warriors since the 2012-13 season
  • Junior Lindsay Werner (Groton, Mass.) also posted a stellar weekend, leading the Warriors in scoring with 21.5 points per contest. She hit nine of Merrimack's 14 three-points over the weekend, shooting 60.0 percent from beyond the arc
  • Merrimack played suffocating defense, limiting its opponents to 37.9 percent shooting from the field, and forcing them into 30 turnovers. Six Warriors emerged from the two games with multiple steals, led by a team-leading five from sophomore Giulia Orlando (Haverhill, Mass.)
The Greyhounds:
  • Assumption did not compete over the opening weekend and will play its season opener on Wednesday
  • The Greyhounds are coming off a 19-9 season that saw Assumption qualify for the NCAA Tournament as the seventh seed out of the East Region
  • Assumption graduated its three leading scorers from last year, with sophomore Morgan O'Donnell returning as its top offensive option
The Series:
  • Wednesday will be the 64th all-time meeting between Assumption and Merrimack
  • The Warriors suffered two losses last year against the Greyhounds in the two programs' conference meetings
  • Prior to last season, Merrimack had won its last two trips to Laska Gym
Up Next
The Warriors play a non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon when the Navy and Gold head to Nyack to face the Warriors of Nyack College at 2 p.m.
