SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team hits the road for a weekend series against Union (N.Y.) in non-conference action on Friday and Saturday. Friday night's puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday's afternoon tilt begins at 3 p .m. It is the first meeting between the two schools.
Last Time Out:
- The Warriors suffered a pair of losses in Hockey East action this past weekend against Vermont. Sophomore goalie Léa-Kristine Demers (Repentigny, Quebec) had 17 saves in Friday's game.
- On Saturday, The Warriors led 1-0 at 9:16 of the first period on a goal by sophomore Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Brampton, Ontario). Junior defender Dominique Kremer (West Fargo, N.D.) found classmate Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) along the boards. Rae sent a pass down the middle of the ice, finding Grant-Mentis on a breakaway and the sophomore converted. However, the Catamounts came back with a goal at 43 seconds of the second period, and then scored the eventual game-winner with nine minutes left in the third. Junior net-minder Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Saskatchewan) finished with 17 saves in net.
- Â Merrimack's scoring defense ranks 17th, allowing just 2.18 goals per game.
The Dutchwomen:
- Union enters the weekend with a 2-5-1 overall record and a 2-0-0 ECAC record. They picked up back-to-back wins against conference opponents Brown and Yale, by the score of 6-3 and 3-1, respectively.
- The Dutchwomen are led by Arianna Kosakowski, who has seven points on four goals and three assists. Cheyenne Harris leads the team with five assists, along with a tally. Coco Francis has played in six games with three starts in net, posting a 2-0-1 record with a 1.61 goals against average.
- Union has converted five power-play chances on 25 opportunities, while giving up seven power-play goals.
- The Dutchwomen's scoring offense is tied for 26th in the nation.
