NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Heading on the road for the final time in 2017, the Merrimack College women's volleyball program travels to New York this weekend to face Adelphi University and Pace University. The Warriors stop on Long Island Friday night to take on the Panthers at 7 p.m. before a 1 p.m. first set against the Setters in Pleasantville, N.Y. on Saturday.
Last Time Out:
- The Warriors dropped a pair of home matches last weekend against the College of Saint Rose and Le Moyne College
- Against Saint Rose, senior captain Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) returned to her libero position and notched a match-high 16 digs. It was her second-highest total over her last 10 matches and her 12th match this season in double figures
- Also against the Golden Knights, Basauri nearly posted a double-double, finishing with eight kills and eight digs. Over her last five matches, Basauri is averaging 2.29 kills per set
- Merrimack switched up its lineup against the Dolphins, with sophomore Sydney Buran (Cohoes, N.Y.) splitting setting duties with classmate Rosie Sperduto (Brentwood, Tenn.) and sophmores Kylie Chetwynde (Hanover, Mass.) and Brianna Santiago (Belchertown, Mass.) seeing their most playing time of the season
- Buran registered eight assists, Chetwynde posted the first three kills of her career on 10 attacks and Santiago notched two digs as a reserve defensive specialist
Inside the Series:
- The Warriors hosted the Panthers and Setters last season at Hammel Court, dropping a pair of four-set matches to both squads
- The Warriors last victories against both schools came towards the end of the 2014 season, sweeping the Setters and edging the Panthers in five
- Nye combined to collect 30 digs over eight sets last seasons against the two New York schools. Fellow senior captain Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio) was particularly effective against the Panthers, finishing with 10 kills on 20 attacks with a .400 hitting percentage
