#10 Field Hockey Suffers 2-1 Loss at Franklin Pierce

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.  – The No. 10 Merrimack College dropped a 2-1 decision at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H.

  • After Merrimack attempted the game's first three shots and two corners, the Ravens struck three shots on sophomore Katharina Ohmen (Bremen, Germany) in the 14th minute that were all saved. The Ravens were awarded with a penalty stroke, however, and scored to take a 1-0 lead
  • Late in the half, Merrimack tied the score. Junior back Samantha Bartush (Norwalk, Conn.) delivered a feed to the right post, where senior Rylie Hammond (Phillipston, Mass.) buried a deflection to even the score in the 34th minute
  • Over the final 19 minutes of the opening stanza, the Merrimack defense did not allow a single shot from the Ravens, dominating the pace of play
  • Senior goalkeeper Kayla Raneri (Reading, Mass.) took over in the second half, and made three saves over the first 15 minutes. On the other end of the field, Hammond and classmate Taylor Simpson (York, Maine) attempted three consecutive shots in the 42nd minute, but all three were saved by the Ravens
  • In the 53rd minute, the hosts were able to get a shot past Raneri to take a 2-1 advantage
  • The Warriors attempted three shots over the final 14 minutes, but all of them were saved by Raven's goalkeeper Meaghan Williams
Team Leaders (MC // FPU) Notes and Notables
  • Raneri made her debut appearance on Saturday afternoon, stopping six of the seven shots that came her way for a .857 save percentage
  • Hammond's seventh goal of the season marks the most on the Warriors and ranks fourth in the NE10. She increased her career total to 37, which is fifth-most in program history
  • After a six-point season as a sophomore, Bartush's helper registered as her first point of 2017
