NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Playing in the program's third consecutive game away from Hammel Court, the Merrimack College women's basketball team will be in Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday night to take on the American International Yellow Jackets at 5:30 p.m. from Butova Gymnasium in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Last Time Out:
- The Warriors held the University of New Haven to 27 points – the fewest allowed for the program against a Division II opponent in 27 years. Merrimack limited the Chargers to eight points in the first half alone, the fewest for the program since the NCAA went to the four-quarters format prior to the 2015-16 season
- Sophomore Denia Davis-Stewart (Dorchester, Mass.) posted her fourth double-double in seven games this season, totaling 11 points and 12 rebounds to go along with a game-high five blocks
- Merrimack's leading scorers, junior Lindsay Werner (Groton, Mass.) and sophomore Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.), joined Davis-Stewart in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Werner hit all three of Merrimack's triples on the evening
'Mack Facts:
- With two games remaining until Merrimack returns to Northeast Division action, the Warriors hold a one-game lead over Assumption for fifth in the division. The top-five programs in the Northeast advance to the NE10 Championship
- Werner canned her 50th three-pointer of the season last Wednesday, becoming the first Warrior to hit 50 triples in a season since Chloe Rothman '15 achieved that feat during three of her of four years on campus. Werner needs 13 treys to set a new single-season record at Merrimack
- Junior Karlee Alves (Ellington, Conn.) continues her breakout season from the point guard position, tying her career high with six steals against the Chargers. She added four assists on Wednesday, increasing her NE10-leading total to 110 helpers through 17 games. The Ellington native is tied for fifth nationally in total assists and ranks 11th with 53 steals
- Davis-Stewart already ranks third in the conference with 33 total blocks. Additionally, if she qualified, her 10.0 boards per game average would ranks fourth in the NE10
The Yellow Jackets:
- AIC has surprisingly struggled after being selected to win the Southwest Division in the NE10 Preseason Coaches back in October, owning a 2-10 NE10 ledger through 12 games
- The Yellow Jackets boast one of the top post players in the conference in junior Dana Watts, who currently averages a double-double with 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game
- AIC enters Tuesday on a four-game losing streak and has lost five of six games against the Northeast Division
- The Yellow Jackets have only won once at home this season, entering their seventh home tilt on Tuesday
The Series:
- Merrimack will look to snap a five-game losing streak in Springfield, where the Warriors haven't won since the 2008-09 season
- The Yellow Jackets have dominated the all-time series, winning 41 times compared to just 14 victories for the Navy and Gold
