NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team will open its season series against the University of Connecticut on Friday night at 7 p.m. from Lawler Rink in Hockey East action.
Last Time Out:
- The Warriors wrapped up their season series against Boston College on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Eagles, 7-3. Sophomore Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Brampton, Ontario) picked up a pair of goals to extend her point streak to five games. Junior Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) scored the other goal for Merrimack.
- Sophomore Léa-Kristine Demers (Repentigny, Quebec) had 21 saves in the contest.
Last Season vs. UConn
- Last season, the Warriors went 1-2 against the Huskies. After Connecticut took the first two games, Merrimack came back to defeat the Huskies, 3-2, from Lawler Rink on Jan. 7, 2017. Grant-Mentis scored the game-winning goal in that game with 3.7 seconds left in regulation for the Warriors.
- Junior Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.) also picked up a goal in the contest. Classmates Annie Boeckers (Otsego, Minn.) and Dominique Kremer (West Fargo, N.D) each contributed with assists. Junior Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Saskatchewan) made 27 saves in that game, including 15 in the final period.
The Warriors:
- Rae leads the team with 12 points (7g, 4a), while Grant-Mentis has 11 points on eight goals and three assists. Juniors Felila Manu (Anchorage, Alaska) and Paige Voight each have six assists. Voight also has three goals.
- Rae has a four-game point streak with three goals and an assist over the last four contests.
- Ridgewell is eighth nationally with a .930 save percentage, which is first among Hockey East goaltenders.
The Huskies
- Connecticut enters the weekend with a 5-7-7 overall record, but are winless in Hockey East play at 0-6-4. The Huskies most recently defeated Dartmouth on Dec. 31, 2017, 5-2, in a non-conference road game.
- Natalie Snodgrass leads the team in goals (11) and points (20), while also picking up nine assists. Briana Colangelo has 15 points and a team-high 10 assists.
- Annie Belanger has played in 13 games in net, posting a 4-5-4 record, a 2.17 goals against average, and a .926 save percentage.
- The Huskies have the fifth best power play conversion rate in conference play at 17.6 %. Their scoring defense ranks second to last in league play at 3.10 goals allowed per game.
