NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College athletic department on Thursday announced the women's ice hockey program will undergo a change in leadership.
Erin Hamlen, who recently concluded her 11th season at the helm of the Merrimack program, will not return as the head coach. Hamlen went 93-239-35 during her tenure at Merrimack. She started at Merrimack when the program elevated to Division I competition ahead of the 2015-16 season.
"I am grateful to Erin for the foundation she helped establish as the inaugural head coach of our varsity women's ice hockey team, and I wish her the very best in her future endeavors," athletic director
Joe Foley said. "We believe Merrimack is now poised to build upon that foundation as we seek to achieve new levels of comprehensive excellence."
Under Hamlen's guidance, the Warriors compiled a program-best 16-13-7 record during the 2018-19 campaign. It served as the first time in program history the Warriors finished with a record of .500 or better. Merrimack earned opening-round wins in the Hockey East Tournament in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Additionally, the 2024-25 women's hockey team had 24 players named Hockey East All-Academic with 15 Hockey East Distinguished Scholars. In each of the prior two seasons, Merrimack had 14 members of the women's hockey team recognized as AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholars and Hamlen previously had a student athlete nominated for the Hockey Humanitarian Award three years in a row.
A national search for the next head coach of the women's ice hockey program will begin immediately.
