PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore
Alyssa Torres (Bohemia, N.Y.) sank two free throws with 2:18 remaining in Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference contest at Pace University, giving the Merrimack College women's basketball program the lead for good in the Warriors' 62-59 win from the Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville, N.Y.

- The Warriors led by as many as 13 in the second half and entered the fourth quarter with a nine-point lead. Holding a 58-50 advantage with 4:21 left, the Setters scored nine straight over the next two minutes to take their first lead of the game, 59-58
- Torres' free throws were her only two attempts of the game. Merrimack's defense held Pace scoreless over the final 2:29 of the game, with the offense adding a layup in the final minute to create the three-point margin of victory

- It was a tale of two quarters to start the game, with Merrimack dominating the opening frame. The Warriors started the day on a 19-4 run through the first nine minutes of the game, taking a 12-point lead into the second quarter. Merrimack's post players controlled the floor, with freshman Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Denia Davis-Stewart (Dorchester, Mass.) combining for 11 points and eight rebounds
- Pace outscored Merrimack, 18-11, in the second frame to pull within five at halftime. With the score at 22-7, the Setters scored seven unanswered to bring their deficit down to single digits
- The hosts came within three points, 28-25, before two free throws from junior Lindsay Werner (Groton, Mass.) increased the Warriors' advantage to five. Neither team scored over the final 3:30 of the half, allowing Merrimack to maintain its lead through 20 minutes
- The Warriors used a timeout with 6:33 left in the third quarter, holding a three-point lead. Out of the stoppage, Merrimack outscored Pace with a 10-0 run to build a 46-33 advantage. Freshman Mayson Kimball (Webster, N.H.) drained a trey, Casey added a bucket and the Warriors hit all five of their free-throw attempts to account for the run
- Pace cut into the Warriors' lead from there, trimming its deficit down to nine, 52-43, entering the final quarter. The Setters proceeded to use the first five minutes of the fourth to lower their deficit down to five, 55-50
- Merrimack build its 58-50 lead that preceded the 9-0 Pace run via a three-point play from Kimball on a scoop lay-in that resulted in a trip to the free-throw line with 4:21 remaining in regulation
Notes and Notables
- Casey played in all but one minute on Saturday, collecting her team-leading fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She shot 7-of-13 from the field and made three of Merrimack's five three-pointers on the day
- Junior Karlee Alves (Ellington, Conn.) finished with 11 points, her first time reaching double figures in nine games. She tied her career high with six steals and distributed a game-high five assists
- The Warriors went to the charity stripe 24 times, the second-most trips this season for the Navy and Gold. Merrimack hit 17 free throws including 11-of-12 for the trio of Kimball, Torres and Werner
- Despite a 37-34 rebounding edge for the Setters, the Warriors outscored Pace in the paint, 26-16
- Merrimack shot a season-best 50 percent from beyond the arc (5-10)
